What Is Adult Day Care?

Portrait of a old woman

Normally day care is used to relieve the caregiver of their duties while the care recipient is still in safe and capable hands. Care centers often operate during normal working hours and they are open 5 days a week as well. Some care centers will even offer evening care and weekend care as well, so you know that there are always plenty of options available. At the moment, there are well over 4,000 care programs in the US and there are three main types that you need to know about. There is the medical care, social interaction and Alzheimer’s care. A lot of these come with highly skilled nurses, medical experts and senior care providers. There are also very strict guidelines that caregivers need to meet in order to keep their doors open as well so you know that your relative will be in very safe and capable hands.

It is true that some people don’t want their loved ones going to a day care program because they feel guilty because they are leaving them in the care of another person. When everything works out well however, adult day care can significantly improve the level of care that your loved one receives and it can help them to interact with other people as well. It gives the caregiver some time off while they go to work and it also means that they get the chance to relax. It also gives the person who is receiving the care some time away from their carer as well as some time that can be spent with other people who may understand or interact with them differently.

So as you can see, adult day care really does come with its benefits and you would be surprised at how much it could change the quality of life that your loved one lives.
